US Counties With the Highest Share in the Same House a Year Ago

3,144 US counties ranked by share in the same house a year ago, from highest to lowest. First are Loving County, TX (100%), Taliaferro County, GA (99.9%) and Terrell County, TX (99.3%). The middle one of the 3,144 has 88.1%.

What this measures

The percentage of residents who lived in the same home a year earlier. The middle county is 88%, so the low end is the interesting one: college towns, military bases and resort areas turn over fastest. Read it as the opposite of moving around, not as good or bad. A place nobody wants to leave and a place nobody can afford to leave look the same here. Source: Census ACS 5-year.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
