What this measures
The percentage change in house prices from the year before, from homes that sold more than once. It only covers homes with a mortgage from Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. In small counties with few sales, it can jump around. Source: FHFA House Price Index.
For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
