2,392 US counties ranked by house price index (2000 = 100), from lowest to highest. First are Luce County, MI (136), Coahoma County, MS (140) and Stephenson County, IL (142). The middle one of the 2,392 has 226.

What this measures

House prices compared with the same place in 2000, which is set to 100. A value of 250 means prices are 2.5 times what they were in 2000. It is not a price in dollars, so it shows growth, not which place costs more. Source: FHFA House Price Index.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
