US States With the Lowest Share of Taxes From Property Transfer

51 US states ranked by share of taxes from property transfer, from lowest to highest. First are Georgia (0), Idaho (0) and Mississippi (0). The middle one of the 51 has 0.237.

What this measures

The percentage from taxes charged when a property deed or a stock changes hands, not on owning either. It rises with how often property is sold as much as with the tax rate. So Florida and Washington are near the top, alongside Delaware and DC. Source: Census government finances.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
