US States With the Lowest Share of Taxes From Corporation Licences

51 US states ranked by share of taxes from corporation licences, from lowest to highest. First are Missouri (0), North Dakota (0) and Alaska (0). The middle one of the 51 has 0.105.

What this measures

The percentage from corporation licence and franchise taxes, charged for being incorporated in the state at all, not on anything earned there. This is how Delaware makes its money: 30.1% of all tax money collected by Delaware and every government inside it comes from companies registered there that operate elsewhere. No other state reaches 5%. Source: Census government finances.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
