US States With the Lowest Net Domestic Migration

51 US states ranked by net domestic migration, from lowest to highest. First are New York (-8.90), California (-8.77) and Hawaii (-7.63). The middle one of the 51 has 0.47.

What this measures

People moving in from other states minus people moving out to them, from 1 July to 1 July, from the Census population estimates. Source: Census population estimates.

This is a count, so it is ranked per 1,000 residents. Ranked by the raw total, it would just list the biggest states.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
