US States With the Lowest Price Level, All Items (US = 100)

51 US states ranked by price level, all items (US = 100), from lowest to highest. First are Mississippi (86.8), Arkansas (86.8) and South Dakota (88.1). The middle one of the 51 has 96.5.

What this measures

How expensive everyday living is here compared with the whole country, where the US average is 100. A value of 110 means the same things cost about 10% more than average; 90 means about 10% less. It covers goods, rent, utilities and services. Each year is compared with that year's US average, so a rise means the place got dearer than the country, not that prices went up. An estimate by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), for states and metro areas only. Source: BEA Regional Price Parities.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
