51 US states ranked by real income per person, adjusted for local prices, from highest to lowest. First are District of Columbia (79,990), Wyoming (75,323) and Connecticut (71,915). The middle one of the 51 has 57,242.

What this measures

Income per person after allowing for how expensive the state is. The Bureau of Economic Analysis takes all the income residents receive, divides it by the state's price level and by the rise in US prices since 2017, then by the number of residents. The result is in 2017 dollars that buy about the same amount in every state. For states only. Source: BEA Regional Price Parities.

For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.

A ranking describes places, not the people in them, and a high or low place does not by itself say why. All US rankings.
