US States With the Highest Price Level of Goods (US = 100)

51 US states ranked by price level of goods (US = 100), from highest to lowest. First are Hawaii (110), Washington (107) and California (107). The middle one of the 51 has 97.4.

What this measures

How much goods cost here, such as food, clothing, cars and fuel, compared with the US average of 100. Goods prices differ much less from place to place than rents do. Each year is compared with that year's US average. An estimate by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, from prices the Consumer Price Index collects, for states and metro areas only. For most measures, a national ranking mostly sorts places by income and by how urban they are. Each county’s own page compares it with the 50 counties most like it instead, which is often the fairer view.
